I love the word untethered.
Think of all the ways we are tethered. It could be by debt, possessions, relationships, fears, addictions, habits. I’ve been loosely tethered and more seriously so. This is where I write about my slow and unsteady journey towards an untethered life.
I’m not here to say that there is some nirvana level of untetherment to strive for, or that we should all be free as proverbial birds, with all our stuff in a single backpack, ready to drop everything and go anywhere at a moment’s notice, nothing holding us back. For some people, that might be the right place to be. For others, some grounding is desirable. Being untethered means nothing is holding you down that you don’t want to have holding you down.
